PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect S. pneumoniae in body fluid such as urine or cerebrospinal fluid of a patient showing clinical signs of infection caused by S. pneumoniae can be performed within about 15 minutes Specific and sensitive immunochromatographic (“ICT”) assays are provided. A C-polysaccharide cell wall antigen containing about 10% or less protein from Streptococcus pneumoniae is bound to a spacer molecule, and then the latter free end is bound to a chromatography affinity column. Subsequently, this column is used to purify the progenitor antibody against Streptococcus pneumoniae, thereby obtaining an antigen-specific antibody. A part of such an antibody is combined with a labeling substance to produce an immunochromatographic assay device, pneumonia, bronchitis, otitis media, sinusitis, meningitis, and secondary morbidity caused by this bacterium. Diagnosing various pathological conditions caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. [Selection figure] None |
