abstract | A zero retardation film containing a cellulose ester is used on both sides of a liquid crystal cell to suppress a temporary change in the color of a display image due to a rapid change in a use environment. A polarizing plate 3, a liquid crystal cell 2, a polarizing plate 4, and a backlight 5 are arranged in this order from the viewing side in a housing 6 having an opening 6a on the viewing side. The polarizing plate 3 has a protective film 13 on the liquid crystal cell 2 side with respect to the polarizing film 12. The polarizing plate 4 has a protective film 22 on the liquid crystal cell 2 side with respect to the polarizing film 23. The protective films 13 and 22 contain a cellulose ester and a retardation reducing agent, the retardation Ro in the in-plane direction of these films is 0 nm or more and 10 nm or less, and the retardation Rt in the thickness direction is -10 nm or more and +10 nm or less.
