abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce 1,2-dichloroethane from ethylene, hydrogen chloride and air in an oxychlorination catalytic reaction process comprising at least two towers and a series of fixed bed flow-type catalytic reaction towers in series. A process for producing 1,2-dichloroethane in high yield is provided. SOLUTION: The catalyst packed in the last catalytic reaction tower is composed of two types of low activity and high activity consisting of hollow cylindrical granules containing copper chloride, alkali metal chloride and magnesium chloride supported on alumina. A process for producing 1,2-dichloroethane, which is an oxychlorination catalyst, and is filled with a low activity catalyst on the reaction tower inlet side to which the raw material is supplied, and filled with a high activity catalyst on the reaction tower outlet side .
