titleOfInvention Power supply for dermatological treatment equipment based on light
abstract A switching power supply circuit capable of emitting a desired amount of therapeutic light energy for a light-based dermatological treatment device. A switching power supply drives a flash lamp 112 of a dermatological treatment device to emit a relatively small sequence of light pulses that are aligned to a specific point in the waveform of an AC radiation source. The power supply can not only supply enough total light energy to therapeutically heat the target chromophore in the skin area without causing undesirable damage to the surrounding tissue, but it also substantially supplies the corresponding electrical energy. It offers the additional advantage that it does not have to be derived from a charged capacitor. In addition, the power supply compensates for the lamp performance degradation during the useful life of the flash lamps by modifying its operation based on a predetermined value indicative of the aging / efficiency characteristics of the flash lamps.
