Disclosed is a mutant membrane serine protease-1 (MT-SP1) protease having a modified specificity for a target molecule to be cleaved, which can treat a human disease (for example, cancer). Wild-type and mutant MT-SP1 proteases that cleave vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) or VEGF receptor in a defined substrate sequence. The protease can be used to treat conditions associated with angiogenesis (eg, malignant tumors, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration). [Selection figure] None |
