abstract Provided is a music data generation device that allows a user who does not have knowledge about chords to easily generate chord progression information that matches the time signature of the music data to be generated, and that can generate music data based on the chord progression information. When generating chord progression information based on reference source chord data 100a, since "|" to "|" indicate one measure in the reference source chord data 100a, the CPU Character information is read out, and code information (generation timing, code route, code type) is sequentially generated for each measure based on the read character string data. The time signature information that is set and saved in the RAM is used to generate the “generation timing”. Since the time signature information is not included in the reference source chord data 100a, it is set without being based on the reference source chord data 100a.
