abstract Provided is a system and method for producing polymethoxydimethyl ether (DMM3-8) by acetalizing a formaldehyde aqueous solution or oligoformaldehyde with methanol using a functional acidic ionic liquid as a catalyst. The reaction system preferably comprises a formaldehyde unit concentration unit, a vacuum drying unit, an acetalization reaction unit, a product separation unit and a catalyst regeneration unit. In the method, 50 to 80 wt. The concentrated formaldehyde is made into oligoformaldehyde by vacuum drying, or directly acetalized using oligoformaldehyde as a raw material to produce DMM3-8.
