The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device and a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device, and more particularly, to provide a liquid crystal display device including a retardation compensation film with improved hardness and a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device. A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and a retardation compensation film. The second substrate faces the first substrate. The liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The retardation compensation film is formed on one surface of the first substrate and includes a fluorin resin. Therefore, when the retardation compensation film contains a fluorin resin, hardness, antifouling property and scratch resistance are improved, and damage to the retardation compensation film can be prevented.
