abstract | The present invention provides a rubber composition for a sidewall that can improve the fuel efficiency, steering stability, bending crack resistance and processability in a well-balanced manner, and a pneumatic tire having a sidewall produced using the rubber composition. A rubber component, silica, and a specific silane coupling agent are contained, and the content of a conjugated diene polymer having a specific monomer unit is 5% by mass in 100% by mass of the rubber component. The rubber having a content of silica of 5 to 150 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the rubber component and a content of the silane coupling agent of 100 parts by mass of silica of 0.1 to 70 parts by mass.
