abstract The present invention provides a lubricating oil additive containing a novel ashless oil-based friction modifier. A lubricating oil additive containing a compound represented by the general formula (1) is provided. (In General Formula (1), R is a hydrocarbon-containing group having 1 or more carbon atoms; X1 is a single bond, —CONH— group, —NHCO— group, —NH— group, or one or more heteroatoms; A bonding group having 0 to 1 carbon atoms and having no hydrogen atom bonded to the heteroatom; X2 represents a single bond or a hydrogen atom bonded to the heteroatom having one or more heteroatoms; Z is a bonding group having 0 to 1 carbon atoms; Z is a —CN group, —CO 2 CH 3 group, or a group having 0 to 6 carbon atoms having one or more hetero atoms and a hydrogen atom bonded to the hetero atoms; A is 0 or 1; b is 1 or 2; c is 0 or 1; d is an integer of 0 to 2; and when d is 1 or more, Y is a —CH 2 — group or -OCH2CH2- group.)
