An improved phytase is provided. In a broad aspect, the present invention relates to a phytase derived from bacteria and an altered form (modified form) thereof. Specifically, the present invention relates to the bacterium Buttiauxella sp. To wild-type phytases from and to those variants / modified forms that have been selected and / or engineered for improved characteristics compared to the wild-type (parent) enzyme. The present invention is advantageous because it provides a novel phytase that has properties that make it particularly useful and effective as a feed enzyme. Specifically, the present invention relates to novel phytase polypeptides isolated and / or purified as described herein, or functional fragments or variants or modified forms thereof. The invention also provides nucleic acid sequences encoding such phytases. [Selection figure] None |
