abstract The present invention provides a method for accurately measuring the SOx concentration in exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine in a limiting current type gas sensor. The voltage applied to the limiting current sensor is reduced by applying the peak value of the change in output current when the voltage is lowered from the predetermined voltage, or by applying a voltage lower than the predetermined voltage. The SOx concentration is calculated by using the peak value of the change in the output current when the voltage is raised to a predetermined voltage and then the applied voltage is lowered.
