A method for easily producing a resin composition containing cellulose nanofibers having a low linear thermal expansion coefficient, high light transmittance, and high heat resistance is provided. A method for producing a resin composition of the present invention comprising cellulose nanofibers and an acrylic resin or a methacrylic resin comprises: (A) cellulose obtained by oxidizing natural cellulose fibers in the presence of an N-oxyl compound. A step of obtaining a mixture of nanofibers, a dispersion medium, and an acrylic acid-based monomer or a methacrylic acid-based monomer, (B) a step of removing the dispersion medium from the mixture to obtain a gel-like body, and (C) the gel-like body A step of subjecting an acrylic acid monomer or a methacrylic acid monomer in the body to a polymerization reaction.
