The present disclosure provides a slurry comprising porous silica-treated inorganic core particles and water at a temperature of at least about 90 ° C, more typically from about 93 to about 97 ° C, and even more typically from about 95 to 97 ° C. Heating, and adding a soluble alumina source to the slurry to maintain a pH of about 8.0 to 9.5 to form an alumina treatment on the porous silica treated inorganic core particles. The treated inorganic core particles are free of high density silica or alumina treatment and are present in an amount from about 7% to about 14% and in an amount from about 4.0% to about 8.0%. A coating composition comprising treated inorganic core particles with improved dispersibility made by a method, wherein the surface treatment is substantially homogeneous between particles-particles. |
