Wound care compositions and devices activated by infection |
abstract |
Wound care compositions and devices are provided that contain a pH sensitive, preferably acid degradable component contained in water permeable and hydronium ion permeable materials. The pH sensitive component encapsulates an antibiotic that is released into the wound by microbial infection of the wound site and / or encapsulates a pH indicator. CO 2 is produced by microorganisms in the wound site, carbonate is formed reduces the pH of the pH-sensitive components, thereby by destroying the liposomes to release the antibiotic.
