titleOfInvention | Orthodontic appliance with soluble coating |
abstract | Orthodontic appliances and related methods are provided, including fast-dissolving and moisture-resistant coatings, containing a colorant and a binder selected from polyamide, cellulose derivatives, or poly (ethylene oxide) homopolymers / copolymers. . The coating can serve as a reference marking that facilitates identification of the brace and helps the practitioner place the brace. Advantageously, the composition of these coatings allows the color marking to be washed away quickly, but the color of the coating not to bleed during storage even in high humidity environments. Because these coatings can be removed prior to installation of the archwire, the fast-dissolving nature of these coatings also deposits the coating in recessed and recessed areas such as archwire slots and vertical slots in the brace.
