Hydroxyamides synthesized from esters are provided. A process for producing a hydroxyalkylamide includes reacting an ester with a hydroxyalkylamine having the formula H 2 N—R 3 —OH in the presence of a catalyst in an aqueous solution to form a hydroxyalkylamide, In the formula, R 3 is substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 5 alkyl. These hydroxyamides can be utilized as monomers suitable for forming polymeric articles. |
