abstract | Proposed is a method for decoding a differentially encoded PSK modulated optical data signal carrying FEC encoded data values. The optical signal is corrected by the estimated phase offset. From the corrected signal, a respective likelihood value for the FEC-encoded data value is derived using an estimation algorithm that takes into account the differential encoding rules used to differentially encode the optical signal. The derived likelihood value is limited to a predetermined value range. From the limited likelihood value, an FEC-decoded data value is derived using an algorithm that takes into account the FEC encoding rules used to FEC-encode the FEC-encoded data value. |
