titleOfInvention | Additives and methods for calcium removal from crude oil containing calcium naphthenate |
abstract | Additives and methods are provided for removing calcium from crude calcium naphthenate-containing crude oil or blends thereof at low pH and also at high pH ranging from 5 to 11, preferably from 6 to 11, more preferably from 7 to 11. Here the additive is glyoxal and the pH is that of the wash water for the crude oil treatment system. Also provided are additives and methods for removing calcium from crude naphthenate-containing crude oil or blends thereof. Here, the crude oil is treated with washing water containing an alkaline medium selected from the group consisting of sodium hydroxide (NaOH or caustic), ammonia or amine compounds or mixtures thereof, and also treated in washing water or a desalting unit. The pH of the mixture ranges from 5 to 11, preferably 6 to 11, preferably 7 to 11. The additive is glyoxal and is characterized in that the crude oil or blend thereof is treated with glyoxal. |
