titleOfInvention | Process for the production of (meth) acrylic acid and derivatives and polymers produced therefrom |
abstract | A method is described for extracting (meth) acrylic acid from an aqueous reaction medium into the organic phase in contact therewith. The aqueous reaction medium is at least one base catalyst and at least one selected from maleic acid, fumaric acid, malic acid, itaconic acid, citraconic acid, mesaconic acid, and citramalic acid or mixtures thereof in the form of an aqueous solution. It is produced from dicarboxylic acid and contains the base catalyzed decarboxylation product of the base catalyzed reaction. The method includes adding at least one of the dicarboxylic acids and / or precursors thereof to an aqueous reaction medium to enhance solvent extraction of (meth) acrylic acid into an organic solvent, or an extraction operation. While maintaining the level of base catalyst for the dicarboxylic acid and / or precursor at a substoichiometric level. The method extends to processes for producing (meth) acrylic acid, its esters and their polymers and copolymers. |
