abstract Devices and methods for assessing compliance of vessel lumens and hollow portions of organs are described. The device and method are particularly adapted to determine the compliance of a natural heart valve to facilitate subsequent implantation of the prosthetic heart valve. The device is generally a catheter base having an expandable member secured to the distal end of the catheter. An imaging member is located within the expandable member. This method generally includes the steps of percutaneously deploying the balloon to the target location, expanding the balloon, and determining compliance of the lumen, particularly the heart valve. An optical coherence tomography apparatus is a preferred apparatus for determining compliance.
