abstract The optofluidic platform is constructed to include a planar liquid core integrated optical waveguide for specific detection of nucleic acids. Most preferably, the optical waveguide comprises anti-resonant reflective optical waveguides (ARROWs). Liquid solutions can be prepared and introduced into an optofluidic platform for optical excitation. The resulting optical signal can be collected at the edge of the optofluidic platform and analyzed to determine the presence of single and / or specific nucleic acids.
