Improved quenching method for inactivation of erythrocyte pathogens |
abstract |
An improved method for quenching reactive electrophilic compounds. The present invention provides an improved method for treating erythrocyte compositions with a pathogen inactivating compound under conditions that provide suitable pathogen inactivation while maintaining cellular activity. Also provided are methods of reducing red blood cell dehydration as well as processed red blood cell compositions. In one aspect, the present invention provides pathogen-free under conditions that provide suitable pathogen inactivation and reduction of undesirable side reactions (such as red blood cell modification) while reducing or minimizing side effects such as increased cellular dehydration. Various methods are provided for treating erythrocyte compositions with activating compounds and quenchers. [Selection figure] None |
