abstract | Disclosed is a liquid crystal aligning agent for a liquid crystal display device, which can improve the response speed and obtain a good alignment state regardless of whether or not a polymerizable compound is added to the liquid crystal. Equations (1) and (1) for a liquid crystal display element in which UV is applied to a liquid crystal cell in which liquid crystal is sandwiched between two substrates that have been coated with a liquid crystal aligning agent and fired are applied with a voltage applied. A polysiloxane obtained by polycondensation of an alkoxysilane containing an alkoxysilane represented by the formula (2) and containing 10 to 60 mol% of the alkoxysilane represented by the formula (2) in all alkoxysilanes. Liquid crystal aligning agent R1Si (OR2) 3 (1) (R1 is a hydrocarbon group having 8 to 30 carbon atoms which may be substituted with a fluorine atom, and R2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms.
