abstract A speaker drive circuit having a short-circuit and failure detection function that detects an abnormality before actual use and does not notice that a detection operation is performed, and a detection method thereof. A speaker drive circuit having a short-circuit and failure detection function according to the present invention is a speaker drive circuit having a speaker amplifier section that receives sound output and outputs sound to a speaker. The input unit 30 intermittently supplies a test output having a frequency outside the audible band to the speaker amplifier unit 25. The detection unit 26 intermittently detects a short circuit of the speaker 22 and a failure of the speaker drive circuit 21 based on the output signal from the speaker amplifier unit 25. The determination unit 27 receives the signal from the detection unit 26, determines whether the speaker 22 is short-circuited and the speaker drive circuit 21 is broken, and instructs the indicator lamp 29 to blink or turn on.
