An electrophotographic photosensitive member capable of reducing image defects such as black spots and fog as well as image unevenness is provided. According to the present invention, in an electrophotographic photoreceptor in which at least an undercoat layer and a photosensitive layer are sequentially laminated on a conductive support, the undercoat layer has an average primary particle size different from that of a binder resin. When containing two types of titanium oxide particles, the average primary particle size (d1) of the titanium oxide particles (Ti1) having a large particle size, and the average primary particle size (d2) of the other titanium oxide particles (Ti2) , D2 <1/2 × d1, and a difference in the degree of hydrophobicity between Ti1 and Ti2 is 20% or more.
