abstract |
Disclosed is a liquid crystal aligning agent capable of forming a liquid crystal alignment film having high film hardness and excellent alignment properties and afterimage characteristics of liquid crystal molecules. To provide a liquid crystal alignment film using this liquid crystal alignment agent, and further to provide a liquid crystal display element using this liquid crystal alignment film. A tetracarboxylic dianhydride represented by the following formula (1) or a mixture of tetracarboxylic dianhydrides containing at least one of the tetracarboxylic dianhydrides represented by the formula (1): A liquid crystal alignment film is formed using a liquid crystal aligning agent containing a polyamic acid obtained by reacting with diamine or a derivative thereof.
