The present invention provides an antitumor agent capable of suppressing metastasis by reducing or eliminating a tumor of a tumor patient who is difficult to undergo surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy with few side effects. An antitumor agent comprising carbon dioxide as an active ingredient. The antitumor agent of the present invention comprises (1) tumor reduction or disappearance, (2) suppression of tumor metastasis, (3) carbon dioxide by percutaneous absorption of carbon dioxide from the skin near or away from the tumor. The tumor at a site different from the site of percutaneous absorption can be reduced or eliminated. In addition, when the antitumor agent of the present invention is used in combination with surgical therapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy, the effects can be enhanced and side effects can be reduced as compared with those monotherapy or multimodality therapy.
