abstract |
An object of the present invention is to stably obtain a target transfer nip pressure using an elastic member having a relatively narrow elastic deformation range in a configuration for changing a transfer nip pressure. A nip forming roller for contacting a surface of an intermediate transfer belt to form a secondary transfer nip, and a contact pressure corresponding to a restoring force when an elastic member is elastically deformed between the nip forming roller and the intermediate transfer belt. In a transfer device including a pressure mechanism 40 generated between the transfer belt and a cam 46 that changes the nip pressure of the secondary transfer nip by switching the amount of elastic deformation of the elastic member in at least two stages. The secondary transfer nip pressure is changed by switching the elastic deformation amount (compression amount) of the compression spring 45 while the contact pressure is generated.
