abstract An insulator having high durability and dielectric strength for use in an ignition system component for a mixed fuel engine is provided. The invention relates to an insulator having a circumferential direction and a radial direction perpendicular to each other, about 25% to 60% of SiO 2, 3 to 15 percent of B 2 O 3, is 5-25% of Al 2 O 3 , the sum of 15% to 35% of R 2 O 3, MgO + Li 2 O is between about 6-25%, 4-25% of MgO + 0 to 7% of the Li 2 O, 0 to 15 percent of Na 2 O, 0-15% of K 2 O, 0 to 15% of the Rb 2 O, 2 to 20% of the R 2 O, 0-15% of Rb 2 O, 0 to 20% of the Cs 2 O, 4 to 20 Formed of a glass ceramic containing% F and substantially oriented so that the grains contained in the glass ceramic extend circumferentially to provide improved radial insulation properties.
