PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy method for preparing an aqueous pigment dispersion having improved stability. A method for producing a substantially aqueous pigment dispersion substantially free of an organic binder, comprising mixing at least one water-soluble or water-dispersible silane compound and colloidal silica particles. Producing silane-treated colloidal silica particles in an aqueous dispersion whereby the at least one silane compound is mixed with the colloidal silica particles in a weight ratio of about 0.2 to about 1.5 silane to silica.
