Provided is a separation membrane element capable of increasing the amount of permeated fluid per unit time and improving the stability performance. A membrane element comprising a separation membrane having a separation functional layer on the front surface 1 and a non-woven fabric as a substrate on the back surface 2 and a permeate flow path material 3 disposed on the back surface side of the substrate. The permeate-side channel material is made of a different material from the separation membrane, the permeate-side channel material is a stripe or a dot, the width is 300 to 2000 μm, the pitch is 0.8 to 5 mm, and A membrane element in which the ratio of the projected area of the permeate-side channel material to the separation membrane is 0.03 to 0.80.
