abstract Compositions and methods for the treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases are provided. IL-2 promotes the growth / survival of FOXP3 + regulatory T cells (T-reg cells) preferentially over the growth / survival of FOXP3 - CD25 + T cells, which can be pro-inflammatory. Immunosuppressive mutated variants are provided herein. These variants may be desirable by increasing the ratio of T-reg to other T cells and / or by increasing FOXP3 expression in the T-reg without activating FOXP3 - CD25 + T cells.
