A method for creating a computer game that displays real-world locations is provided. A computer game depicts or displays an actual or imaginary geographic site as part of a game play scenario. Computer games use a map database that contains data representing geographic features such as roads in the field. The game engine program presents the game play scenario to the user via the game user interface. The application programming interface program accepts requests for data from the game engine program, accesses data from the map database, supplies the data to the game engine program in an appropriate format, and presents the game scenario to the user.
