abstract A light use efficiency is improved. A light source device that supplies illumination light to a light guide of an endoscope includes a light emitting element, a phosphor, and a light guide rod. The light emitting element 66 includes a laser diode LD1 that emits excitation light of the phosphor 36. The light guide rod 40 has an incident end face 70 and an exit end face 71, and a side face 72 that connects the entrance end face 70 and the exit end face 71 and guides the light incident from the entrance end face 70 to the exit end face 71 while totally reflecting the light. The side surface 72 has a tapered shape inclined with respect to the optical axis so that the area of the emission end surface 71 is larger than the incident end surface 70. The incident end face 70 and the light emitting surface 69 of the phosphor 36 are optically joined. A reflective film 73 is formed on the entire circumference of the side surface 72 in the range from the incident end surface 70 to the middle of the exit end surface 71. [Selection] Figure 11
