abstract | The present invention provides a rubber composition for a base tread that can improve fuel economy, fracture resistance, and processability in a well-balanced manner, and a pneumatic tire using the rubber composition. A rubber component, silica, and a compound represented by the formula (I) are contained at one end of a conjugated diene polymer of a conjugated diene and a nitrogen-containing styrene compound in 100% by mass of the rubber component. The present invention relates to a rubber composition for a base tread in which the content of the conjugated diene polymer modified in (2) is 5% by mass or more and the content of silica is 5 to 150 parts by mass.
