abstract | The present invention provides an exhaust gas treatment device and an exhaust gas treatment method capable of improving the mercury oxidation rate in exhaust gas generated from a combustion apparatus for fuel containing coal such as a boiler and reducing mercury emission. An air preheater 4 for preheating combustion air of a combustion apparatus by heat exchange between exhaust gas from a boiler 20 that burns fuel containing coal and air, and a bag filter 8 carrying a catalyst for oxidizing mercury. An air preheater having an internal structure and a dust collector 5 that oxidizes mercury in exhaust gas at the outlet of the air preheater 4 and removes dust in the exhaust gas in order from the upstream side of the exhaust gas flow path. By providing the low-efficiency dust collector 21 having a dust collection efficiency lower than that of the dust collector in the exhaust gas passage between the dust collector 4 and the dust collector 5, the amount of mercury discharged into the atmosphere can be reduced. Further, since the amount of ash flowing into the dust collector 5 is reduced by the low efficiency dust collector 21, the fan power can be reduced, the backwash frequency of the bag filter 8 is lowered, and the life of the bag filter 8 is extended.
