Method, system and apparatus for thermal therapy for treating meibomian gland dysfunction |
abstract |
An apparatus, system, and method for treating meibomian gland dysfunction are provided. Heat is applied to the patient's eyelid or surrounding tissue so that heat is applied to the patient's meibomian gland. Application of heat assists in squeezing obstructions or obstructions 22 and 24 in the meibomian glands, restoring sufficient sebum flow to the lipid layer and treating dry eye. A force can also be applied to the patient's eyelid or surrounding tissue to improve conductive heat transfer and reduce blood flow in the tissue causing convective heat loss. Thus, the application of force can further increase the temperature level and / or reduce the time to reach the desired temperature level to remove the obstruction. Reaching a higher temperature level can improve the dissolution, relaxation, or softening of obstructions or obstructions in the meibomian gland while reducing the time to reach the desired temperature level, resulting in patient distraction during treatment. It can help alleviate pleasure. [Selection] Figure 3 |
