The present invention provides a means for the treatment and inhibition of fibrosis by antagonizing the interaction of interleukin (IL-13) with its receptors and receptor components. Disclosed is a polynucleotide encoding the IL-13 binding chain of the IL-13 receptor for the treatment and inhibition of fibrosis by antagonizing the interaction of IL-13 with its receptors and receptor components. Also provided is a pharmaceutical composition comprising the protein and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Further provided is a composition comprising an antibody that specifically reacts with the protein. The compound can inhibit binding of IL-13 to IL-13bc protein or IL-13 receptor. Inhibitors of IL-13R identified by these methods, and pharmaceutical compositions containing them, are also provided. [Selection figure] None |
