abstract | A pretreatment agent and a pretreatment method for biomass containing cellulose for efficiently degrading cellulose with cellulase are provided. SOLUTION: Biomass containing cellulose is stirred in a treating agent mixed solution obtained by adding a peroxide to an ionic liquid, and water is added to the resulting treating agent mixed solution containing cellulose, ionic liquid and peroxide. Is added to precipitate cellulose, and pretreatment to regenerate cellulose promotes hydrolysis (saccharification) of cellulose in the subsequent enzymatic reaction, and decomposes cellulose degradation products such as monosaccharides, disaccharides and oligosaccharides.
