Provided is a thermal transfer sheet that can be transmitted efficiently, has excellent printability, and has a high surface glossiness of the obtained print. SOLUTION: A thermal transfer sheet 1 in which a dye layer 3 and a thermal transferable protective layer 4 are provided in a surface order on a base sheet 2, wherein the base sheet 2 has a tensile elastic modulus of 5 GPa or more and 20 GPa or less.
