The present invention provides a novel method for producing various organic compounds, particularly straight-chain alcohols or branched-chain alcohols, in high yield from two or more alcohols or one alcohol having 3 or more carbon atoms. Two or more alcohols (one of which is ethanol and at least one of the other starting alcohols is methanol, 1-propanol, 1-butanol, 1-pentanol, 1-hexanol, 1 -Heptanol, 1-octanol or an unsaturated alcohol thereof) or 200 kinds of alcohol having 3 or more carbon atoms in hydroxyapatite (excluding those on which a metal catalyst or metal ion catalyst acting on alcohol is supported) Contact at a temperature of from 600C to 600C.
