abstract |
The present invention provides a monosaccharide production technology capable of efficiently performing a solid acid catalytic reaction from a wood material using a column, and promotes the production of biomass ethanol and other useful substances. A partial hydrolyzate of cellulose or hemicellulose is saccharified by hydrolysis using a solid acid catalyst. Hydrolysis proceeds by the step of stirring and mixing the partially hydrolyzed product with the solid acid catalyst and the step of passing the product of this step through a column packed with the solid acid catalyst. The column also serves as a filtration device. Hemicellulose is selectively hydrolyzed by applying pressurized hot water to the biomass, and saccharification enzymes are allowed to act on the solid residue after the reaction to obtain partial hydrolysates of hemicellulose and cellulose.
