abstract |
The present invention provides an elastomer and a nanocomposite that can be used for air barrier applications in the tire industry and that has improved barrier properties and controllability of processability. A halogenated elastomer partially functionalized with triethylamine in a mixture comprising a filler and a cure package, suitable for use as an air barrier for an inner tube or tire inner liner. Halogenated elastomers, C 4 -C 7 isoolefin derived units, para-alkylstyrene derived units, para - (haloalkyl styrene) derived units and para - (triethylammonium alkylstyrene) may be a polymer containing derived units. The Mooney viscosity of the elastomer can be controlled by the degree of functionalization of the triethylamine functionalization. A method of making an article using a triethylamine functionalized elastomer is also disclosed. [Selection] Figure 1 |
