An organic EL element having a long lifetime is provided. An organic EL device has an electrode and at least one organic layer on a substrate, and at least one of the organic layers is a light emitting layer containing a phosphorescent compound and a hole transporting host compound. The phosphorescent compound has a HOMO of −5.15 to −3.50 eV and a LUMO of −1.25 to +1.00 eV, and the phosphorescent compound is represented by the following general formula (1): The excited triplet energy T1 of the hole-transporting host compound is 2.7 eV or more. However, the case where the phosphorescent compound is a specific compound and the host compound is mCP (1,3-bis (carbazol-9-yl) benzene) is excluded. Further, the case where the host compound is a furan derivative is excluded. [Selection figure] None |
