A detection method and a detection kit for an exacerbation index of a COPD patient are provided. COPD comprising measuring an expression level of IL-27 protein or a gene encoding the same in a biological sample derived from a COPD patient, and detecting an increase compared to the expression level when the patient is not exacerbated.
