abstract | An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a collagen-like polypeptide (monomolecular) chain having a higher molecular weight than conventional ones. Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for controlling the molecular weight of the resulting product to a desired size when producing a collagen-like polypeptide (monomolecular) chain. A method for producing a polypeptide comprising a step of subjecting a peptide oligomer represented by any one of the following formulas (1) to (3) to a condensation reaction, wherein the condensation reaction is performed at a phosphorus concentration of 0 M or more and less than 0.01 M. A method for producing a polypeptide, which is performed in an aqueous solvent containing an acid ion in the presence of a condensing agent or a condensing agent and a condensing aid.
