abstract A high performance lithium ion battery with a novel carbon based negative electrode and a novel doubly doped positive electrode material. The negative electrode is a self-supporting carbon fiber material, and the positive electrode is a doubly doped lithium cobalt oxide of the formula LiM x N y Co 1-xy O 2 (0.01 ≦ x, y ≦ 0.2) Where M is a divalent alkaline earth metal cation and N is a divalent transition metal cation. A 2016-type lithium ion coin battery was assembled using the above materials, which showed a specific capacity of 60-85 mAhg -1 at 1C rate, and even after 200 cycles with a charge / discharge cycle of 2.9-4.1V. Cycle stability of ~ 95%.
