abstract | The present invention replaces the 2-position by reacting 3-methylbut-3-en-1-ol (isoprenol) with the corresponding alkene aldehyde in the presence of a very acidic ion exchanger followed by hydrogenation. Further, the present invention relates to a method for producing 4-hydroxy-4-methyltetrahydropyran. The invention particularly relates to a corresponding process in which 2-isobutyl-4-hydroxy-4-methyltetrahydropyran is produced by reacting isoprenol with prenal and then hydrogenating.
