abstract A method and system for determining information about a vessel lumen is described. An exemplary method includes generating an electrical signal, delivering the electrical signal to a plurality of excitation elements near the vessel lumen, and responding from the plurality of sensing elements in response to the delivered electrical signal. Measuring an electrical signal and determining a lumen size. Certain embodiments include generating electrical signals of multiple frequencies. Another embodiment includes measuring a plurality of response signals at a plurality of frequencies. Still other embodiments include using the spatial diversity of the excitation elements. In yet other embodiments, such a method for calibration and retrieval of measurements is used to determine lumen dimensions. Also disclosed are diagnostic devices that incorporate this method, including guidewires, catheters, and implants.
